U.S.’s second leading furniture maker Herman Miller says it would now invest million of dollars in China to expand its business operation in Asia.
The companies open a national design center in Shanghai earlier this week. The Shanghai office would serve as its Asia headquarters.
The company says it chose Shanghai to hold the firm’s quickly expanding client base in Asia. The venture also comprises of two factories in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. It says the companies are looking for acquisition opportunities in China to go faster its expansion plans. The company’s products, and planned consulting services, generated over 1.7 billion US dollars in income during the 2006 fiscal year.
WASHINGTON–The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has opened a public awareness campaign to raise notice to the dangers of falling furniture and televisions.
The campaign gives alerts to parents regarding danger of unsecured furniture and also provides tips to help safeguard heavy furniture.
According to the CPSC, ten children have been killed already past few years by falling TVs. In 2005 more than 3,000 children younger than 5 years old were treated in emergency rooms due to heavy injuries associated with television tip-over.

Furniture orders remained steady even in June compared to June 2005, according to the Furniture Insights industry report issued by BDO Siedman.

The bank has five branches in Benton and Washington counties and is building its Washington County headquarters at 4033 N. Shiloh Drive in Fayetteville.The building would have 9,000 square feet in one story and be finished by year’s end. The building could house about 16 employees, said Wyley Elliott, Northwest Arkansas president for Metropolitan National Bank.
The Washington County headquarters cost $2.58 million, according to Fayetteville building officials.
A senior government officer based in the Shiselweni region is the hottest furniture shop victim to allege to have been paying a monthly installment for goods he bought from one of the shops for 10 years now.
The senior officer whose name and that of the furniture shop cannot be identified for now claimed that he bought a six-piece recline suit from a furniture dealer in Nhlangano way back in 1996. He said when he bought the goods, they were valued at over E5000 but he has started himself paying two times the initial amount.
“By the look of things, they have been cashing in on me. I realized that I was being milked when the furniture personnel called to find out when I was coming to pay,” said the senior officer.

For the first time, Brazilian companies displayed their furniture at the latest July edition of the Las Vegas Market. Sixteen companies from Brazil shared a 6,900 square feet space in the Las Vegas Convention Center from July 25th to 28th. SALEM, Ore. — A four-alarm fire that shattered a Salem business last week started in the basement
Flames erupted Thursday at McMahan’s Furniture at State and Commercial streets in downtown Salem.The fire was so strong that crews were forced to recoil and assault it from the outside. The building smoldered all through the weekend. Damage was predictable at $1.25 million.
Fire investigators had their first chance Tuesday to go inside the building. They say it started in the vault, but the precise cause is not yet known.
