Furniture shop demands
A FURNITURE shop is demanding a refrigerator from a customer who died three years ago at Matsanjeni in the Shiselweni region.
The man was employed by Illovo and died after he was knocked behind by a car. Though Themba Sikhondze was long buried, the furniture shop based at Matata Shopping centre is charitable his family restless days by demanding the refrigerator back.
So serious is the issue that it has now been reported to the Consumer Association of Swaziland for remedy.Sikhondze’s family called Consumer Watch last week to enquire about the insurance policies signed when customers purchase goods on hire purchase. They said some two men claiming to be agents of the furniture shop have on some occasions made frantic efforts to repossess the refrigerator.
“We have always explained to them that they do not have the right to repossess it because the owner died. We even showed them the birth certificate. They are, however, adamant saying they have the right to repossess it because it was not paid for in full. They even went to the extent of asking us to continue paying for the refrigerator but we told them we could not because we do not have the money,” said the deceased’s sister.
