Lana’s decided to change the space fast because her girlfriends are coming for her birthday day celebration. The old style lighting and outdated fabrics and bad furniture’s are the things make the room bad. So I decided to renovate the room to this current trend and I did the same. It’s a memorable thing for her.

For this project I took the inspiration from the room’s  dramatic fire place.

Important tips for inexpensive way of updating kitchens

Filed under: Custom cabinetry — admin @ 4:24 am

Revitalizing a dated or tired kitchen may seem like a scary task, especially when the budget is limited. But it needn’t be. Here are some reasonably inexpensive ways to bring new character to that old kitchen.

Cabinets
One of the most satisfying improvements comes from simply painting old cabinetry, giving it a fresh new look. Nearly any surface can be painted provided you do a thorough preparation. Remove hardware and hinges, then clean cabinetry with a strong solution of TSP (Trisodium Phosphate). Rinse well, allow cabinets to dry thoroughly and then follow by sanding the surface with 120-grit sandpaper, wiping up any sand dust, and you’re ready to apply a thin coat of super enthusiast primer.
Allow to dry overnight and repeat the sanding, this time using finer 150-grit sandpaper. Give cabinets a final clean and apply a coat of paint. For conventional cupboards, a wash of antiquing glaze will lend them old-world charm. Splurge on new hardware. To give a standard kitchen a more custom look, consider exchanging a pair of solid cabinet doors for glass-front versions which bring decorative dishes and glassware into the spotlight. Add patterned wallpaper behind shelves to heighten the contact. If you are working with slab front cabinets with a totally flat appearance, consider applying a wood moulding to the face of each door to create a “paneled” look.

Backsplash
Restore an unpleasant backsplash with well-priced ceramic tiles. Fashionable today are 4-inch by 6-inch subway tiles in bright white or ivory. Lay tiles in an offset bone pattern where vertical grout lines are spread out from one row to the next.
If current ceramic tiles are smooth (without a raised pattern) they can also be improved with a coat of paint. Just make sure to remove any gloss from the tiles so the primer can adhere properly. You might use melamine paint for this task, since it’s known for improved grip and stability (available at most paint stores and big box retailers).

Window Treatments
A kitchen has so many hard surfaces that a fabric window treatment is almost always a welcome addition. If a soft treatment doesn’t appeal, create a display area for porcelain and dishware by installing glass shelves in front of a sunny window. Or hang a stained-glass panel directly in front of an on hand window.

Flooring
An area carpet increases style and comfort underfoot. Sea grass lends texture to cool surfaces such as stone and vinyl. An oriental-style carpet provides conventional kindness.

Islands
An island, even a portable one, affords an additional work space and invaluable storage. It also acts as a favourite gathering spot during meal preparation. Choose a well-built countertop such as butcher’s block, stainless steel or granite.

Walls
Once kitchen cabinets are in place there is often little wall space left over, so a enterprising paint colour such as eggplant or charcoal may inject a dry kitchen with big personality. For display, install a family gallery that features black and white or sepia photos. Group photos by theme, say family vacations. Another idea to consider — frame a collection of children’s artwork and display it prominently.

Outfit your home-with latest furnishings trends.

General styles
Contemporary is hot, says professional staff of the Tokoro, Inc. in California. Today’s contemporary style is soft, affectionate and clean. Even traditional collections at High Point sported updates. “I saw increased use of lighter woods in conventional collections such as maple,” says Staff. Traditional upholstered pieces also featured fabric and leather combinations.

Colors
The new hot color? Orange. Staff saw it everywhere at High Point. He says brown has overtaken neutrals such as white, tan and taupe. The newer array of upholstered colors at High Point were fresh but toned down. “I saw lots of greens, lavenders, blues, creamy yellows and variations of the citrus colors, with orange foremost the way,” recalls Staff. Completely orange-clad pieces might be a widen here, says Stanly . People still love sage green, she says, but have also taken to light aqua.

Home entertainment
Left are the big entertainment armoires with swing-out folding doors and large, enclosed wall units. “The hot items are credenza-like units,” says Staff. (Jargon alert: A credenza is typically a sideboard, buffet or bookcase, especially one without legs.) New furnishings must be multifunctional, providing a comfy TV viewing height and accommodating peripheral electronics such as DVD players, TiVo devices and speakers. The advent of wall-mounted TVs are also affecting decor, he says. “This means that surrounding furniture must be a bit lower to the floor, yet still hold peripheral electronics and complement the new, sleek styling of these TV sets.”

Living room
Consumers are leaving loveseats for more comfy and versatile chair-and-a-halves, chaises and occasional pieces, says Staff. A chair-and-a-half, he explains, is a wider chair for one. Chaises extend a chair the other way, allowing you to stretch your legs in front of you. You can also find chaises built into many sectional sofas. Stanly, however, says folks here goodwill chair-and-ottoman combos.

Home office
“With more and more people working solely from a home office, or splitting time between a corporate or business office and a home office or nest, the demand for purposeful furniture will only increase,” Staff says. Regardless of the look or style, furniture must also be able to hold today’s technology. This means the correct height and surface areas for the screens and keyboards, properly sized storage and filing areas, and sufficient access openings for wires and cables.

You should be able to adjust the screen so it can be a little lower than eye-level (about 15 degrees) and capable to type at seated-elbow height when your feet are resting flat on the floor, a footrest or anywhere else, says Johan William, a Perinton consultant in computer ergonomics. When it comes to chairs, make sure there’s enough of a curve for your lower back (lumbar region) to give the right support.

Dining room
Staff says people are finding alternatives to large, traditional buffets or hutches in smaller granite- or foldout-topped servers. Vertical display cabinets with areas for wine and beverage service also prevailed at High Point, says Staff. As in other areas of the house, Staff says traditional dining room furniture is taking on a efficient, modern flair. At High Point, he saw a prominence on cleaner looks such as Shaker and modified Mission. Staff agrees, noting bar-height furnishings, Shaker styles, wood-and-leather combos and Mission-style features as popular choices.

Children-friendly space is within the achieve

Filed under: Furnitures — admin @ 10:54 pm

Approved, they don’t have all the answers. Some are not even sure what they would like to be when they grow up.But let’s face it, most children know what they want when it comes to their rooms. After all, these little people — through their parents — splurge thousands of dollars each year on outfitting their space.

According to some home furnishing experts, the business of decorating children’s rooms reached sales of more than $2.6 billion in 2004. Further often than not, the members of Generation Next want their rooms to be unique, from their bedding to their walls, and just as happy as mom and dad’s.

And as manufacturers continue to target this segment, which ranges from infants to the prepubescent, these young consumers are starting to find that they don’t have to grow into their rooms because furnishings and other products are being designed to be within their reach.

Moving away from using hand-me-downs, parents are ready to spend big bucks, creating the rooms of their or their children’s dreams, complete with sitting areas and ottomans that are scaled down to size. Even bathrooms can be equipped with child-friendly, themed faucets.

Tokoro, Inc Staff, said customers who buy high-end baby furniture are looking to create a stylish baby’s room. The furniture is all really based on luxury. … Parents like the good things in life and want that for their children,” she said.

Through catalogs, She carries a line of high-end baby furniture that includes armoires, rocking chairs, baby chairs and ottomans. Parents also can special order custom-designed bedding and coordinating fabrics for the furniture. “It appeals to the child in all of us,” she said. “All the time, people are coming in and saying, ‘There was nothing like this when we were growing up.’ ”

Experts say designing a room that is accessible to their pint-sized owners makes them more independent. And perchance, it also may make it more manageable for them to keep it orderly.

Anna Kasabian, author of “Kids Rooms,” (Quarry Books, 2001) recommends in her book that parents buy low cargo space shelves and put up accessible wall pegs so children can put away their own clothes.

Johnson Cruise, an California parent of three children, designed a light switch handle that makes it easy for children to rotate the lights on and off in any room. It’s presented for $11.95 each or $21.95 for a set of two at www.justoutofreach.com . “My son was always getting on top of stuff, using trucks that have wheels and falling off,” she said. “And I was tired of receiving up.”

Tokoro, Inc. product also makes children feel good about their achievement. “The child feels ‘I can do it,’ and it’s just a fun, neat thing to have,” she said. “Once you have it, it’s almost a essential. “The light switch extender is easy to install without the use of tools and avail colorful themed handles. Parents can choose from twenty four different designs.

Jack Anderson, a CA parent with one child and one on the way, said she’s awed with the new products coming out for children’s rooms. “Even five years ago, they didn’t have them,” she said. And as Johnson and other parents see it, buying furnishings and gadgets that are accessible to children can only help make everyone’s life easier.

“I don’t imagine it’s spoiling children because if you make life easier for them, you turn around and compose life easier for yourself,” she said. “I’m already looking for things that I could use (when the child arrives).”
